Silambarasan TR's big comeback film, Maanaadu, is celebrating its first anniversary today (November 25) after releasing last year on the same date, and turned out to be a blockbuster success. Directed by Venkat Prabhu and produced under Suresh Kamatchi's V House Productions banner, the science fiction action thriller film featuring chart-topping music by Yuvan Shankar Raja crossed several hurdles during production, including being halted for some time during the Covid-19 pandemic lockdown, before becoming a box office money-spinner. With the end credits of Maanaadu hinting at a sequel, producer Suresh Kamatchi has now shared a video on the occasion of the film's one year anniversary, which has once again indicated the second installment.

The video showcases the journey of Maanaadu from being announced to its sensational release last year along with a clue that there indeed could be a sequel in the making. Towards the end of the video, which has been released with the hashtag #1YrOfMegaBBMaanaadu, we see the text, "Loop continues soon", thus suggesting the sequel is indeed in development. It is to be noted that the Maanaadu team had earlier expressed their desire for a sequel after the original film turned out to be Simbu's first venture to enter the 100-crore club. Editor Praveen K.L., for whom Maanaadu was his 100th film, too had confirmed in an exclusive interview with Galatta last year that director Venkat Prabhu has a line for the sequel, and it now remains to be seen when the project will become a reality. With Maanaadu 2 yet to happen, STR will next be seen in the highly-anticipated Pathu Thala, which has him playing the role of a don named AGR, while he is also attached to a venture titled Corona Kumar under Idharkuthane Aasaipattai Balakumara fame Gokul's direction. Fans are also waiting for an announcement for the Vendhu Thanindhathu Kaadu sequel after the original film released this year ended on a cliffhanger note and teased the next installment. Venkat Prabhu, on the other hand, is currently working on his Telugu debut, Custody, which is also coming out in Tamil and stars Naga Chaitanya in the lead role.
