Jyotika’s Ponmagal Vandhal, Keerthy Suresh’s Penguin and Yogi Babu’s Cocktail are some of the notable Tamil films that released directly on OTT streaming platforms during this lockdown period. In Hindi, we saw Amitabh Bachchan - Ayushmann Khurrana starrer Gulabo Sitabo having a direct digital release and few more exciting biggies including Sushant Singh Rajput’s Dil Bechara, Akshay Kumar’s Laxmmi Bomb, Abhishek Bachchan’s The Big Bull, Ajay Devgn’s Bhuj: The Pride Of India are lined up for a direct OTT release.

Meanwhile, there were wide speculations that Arya’s upcoming Tamil film, Teddy will have a direct OTT release and it was rumoured that the movie might most likely stream on Prime Video. This news created a buzz on social media and the fans were quite confused since the makers neither confirmed nor denied the news.

However, the film’s director Shakti Soundar Rajan has now made a clarification regarding the news, denying the speculations about the OTT release. He said that the film’s theatrical rights have already been sold. Talking to Times Of India, the Miruthan director was quoted as saying, “It’s true that OTT platforms are a blessing for several films, and that many films across the country getting released in both theatres and such platforms will be the norm. But with regard to Teddy, its theatrical release was sold much earlier and it will be hitting the screens, possibly this year, if everything goes well”.

Going by Shakti Soundar Rajan’s words, it looks like Teddy is very much likely to release only in theatres. The songs composed by D Imman have received a very good reception from the music lovers and his musical score is going to be an additional support to the film. Produced by K.E.Gnanavel Raja under the banner of Studio Green, Teddy features Sayyeshaa as the female lead, while Sathish, Karunakaran, ‘Bigg Boss’ Sakshi Agarwal, form the supporting cast.

As the title suggests, the film will feature a Teddy bear in an important role, travelling with Arya for the major part. The film’s teaser, which released just a few days before the lockdown, had got positive reviews and people were looking forward to watching the film. Teddy has cinematography by S Yuva and editing by T Shivanandeeshwaran.
