In a scene straight out of his film My Name Is Khan, Shahrukh Khan was recently detained at the New York White Plane Airport for over two hours. The actor had flown to NYC to address the Yale University students.
Shahrukh, who has been named a Chubb Fellow, one of the Ivy League institution's highest honours, on April 12 for promoting human ideals through art, was accompanied by Neeta Ambani. However, despite the rest of the passengers being cleared without a hitch, SRK was detained, which led to the university officials contacting the Department of Homeland Security and the Immigration and Customs Department at Washington, about his detention.
However, details about why the actor was detained are yet to be confirmed.
Shahrukh, who reached Yale University 3 hours late, said in his speech "Was detained again for an hour and a half. Every time I feel like a star, I come to America to feel grounded."
Meanwhile, the US customs and border protection authorities have expressed their "profound" apologies for detaining Shah Rukh Khan at a New York airport for over two hours yesterday.
External Affairs Minister SM Krishna, who is in Moscow currently said, "It has become a habit these days to first detain and then apologise. This can't continue,"
Indian Ambassador to the US, Nirupama Rao, has been asked to take up the issue with the country.
This is the second time that SRK has been detained in US. In 2009 also, he was stopped at the Newark Airport for questioning.
