Shahid Kapoor's highly anticipated next, Jersey which was scheduled to release in theatres this Friday, December 31, has now been postponed indefinitely and this development has come as a major shocker for the fans and film buffs. Due to the recent increase in the Omicron (Covid 19 variant) cases in the country and several restrictions being announced in the North Indian states to control the spread of the virus, the makers have pushed the release of Jersey. Theatres in Delhi have been closed with immediate effect from today (December 28) and many more states are expected to follow suit.

An official statement from the team of Jersey was issued this evening. Regarding the postponement of Jersey, the makers said, "In view of the current circumstances and new covid guidelines we have decided to postpone the theatrical release of our film Jersey. We have received immense love from you all so far and want to thank you all for everything. Until then everyone please stay safe and healthy, and wishing you all the best for the new year ahead!! Team Jersey!!". Jersey has become the first Indian biggie to be postponed due to the Omicron virus spread and we will have to wait for a few more days to see how the situation pans out.

Rajamouli's RRR, Ajith Kumar's Valimai, and Prabhas' Radhe Shyam have been scheduled for release in early January and we will have to see if there is a change in plans of release for those movies. Jersey is the official Hindi remake of the Telugu film with the same title, starring Nani and Shraddha Srinath in the lead roles. Jersey Hindi is directed by Gowtam Tinnanuri and has Mrunal Thakur playing the female lead.
