After a long delay in its release, Shahid Kapoor and Mrunal Thakur starrer, Jersey, the highly anticipated sports drama is finally ready for a worldwide release. What was supposed to hit the theatres on 31 December 2021 is given the green light to be released on 14 April 2022. The announcement was made minutes after Aamir Khan Production announced that they have postponed their much-awaited Laal Singh Chaddha, from April 14 to August 11.

Just when we thought KGF: Chapter 2 and Thalapathy Vijay's Beast won't have any competition on its opening weekend, Jersey comes and takes Laal Singh's Chaddha's place instead and now stands as a clear competitor to the multilingual biggies. It will be interesting to see the three titans battle it out at the box office. Shahid Kapoor took to Twitter to announce the new release plans of Jersey. He wrote, “So so happy to announce that our beloved film #Jersey will be releasing worldwide in theatres on the 14th of April 2022. See you in the theatres”. Helmed by National Award winning director Gowtam Tinnanuri, who also concocted the original Jersey starring Nani will narrate the story of Arjun, a talented but failed cricketer, who decides to return to cricket in his late thirties solely motivated by the desire to represent the Indian cricket team and fulfil his son's wish of getting a jersey as a gift.

The film stars Shahid Kapoor as the ex-cricketer, Mrunal Thakur of Super 30, Toofan and Dhamaka fame alongside his father turned veteran actor Pankaj Kapoor. The film is produced by Geetha Arts, Dil Raju Production, Sithara Entertainments and Brat Films. Music composer-lyricist duo Sachet-Parampara have taken care of the film's songs. Anil Mehta is the man behind the lens as the film's cinematographer with Naveen Nooli acting as its editor.
