The department of visual communication at Sathyabama Institute of science and technology organized LEGEND'20, a two days webinar and a national level short film festival on 16th& 17th of August 2020 through virtual mode. This fest has been happening for fourteen consecutive years. It is a platform for media students across the nation to exhibit their talents in making short films and accumulate media skills from renowned personalities excelling in their own field of expertise.  
 
The inaugural session was headed by the guest Dir. Gautam Vasudev Menon and our honourable Chancellor Dr. Mariazeena Johnson.  
 
The chancellor, Dr. Mariazeena Johnson, appreciated the department for initiating this great event virtually even during this pandemic situation. She also revealed her upcoming plan of starting the production house especially to create opportunities for young creative minds. She also elaborated the successful journey of the department and their support to autism and acid victim girls’ students to fulfill their dreams of attaining degrees.   
 
As a part of the event, the autism and acid victim alumni of the department shared their experience of the institution. The acid victim girl was overwhelmed with joy when she narrated her experience of working as a model. 
 
Then, Film director Gautam Vasudev Menon shared his thoughts of converting good scripts in to a visually appealed movie. He interacted with the students virtually and conveyed few tips to keep in mind while directing. He also shared his valuable experience of filmmaking. 
 
Ms.Maria Lafi took over the second session. She is a prominent filmmaker who won many accolades for her Greek movie “Holy Boom”. She narrated the experience of scripting “holyboom” by showing the visuals of the story board and the characterization process.Her experience was well explained and further it aroused a good interactive session with the media students. 
 
The third session was with the renowned Tollywood cinematographer K K Senthil Kumar. He bagged many awards as the Best Cinematographer for the movies Magadheera and Baahubali sequels. The students interacted with him about the technical aspects of cinematography in terms of opting the cameras and lenses for the feature films. He advised the students to experiment with the new technologies in order to adapt to the current trends of filmmaking.  
 
The second day was kick started by the eminent director Prabhu Solomon. He was renowned for his movies Myna, Kumki, Kayal and thodari. He narrated his excellent experiences and hurdles in locations especially in forests while making Kumki Movie and his upcoming movie “Kaadan”. He insisted the students to explore different locations and attain knowledge before get into scripting work. 
 
As a part of this session, Mr .Thangaraj, a general secretary of ICAF –Indo cine Appreciation Foundation and director of CIff (Chennai international film festival) also participated and shared few words to the students. 
 
Next session was headed by Krishna Kumar, a prominent Actor and Ad film Maker. His session was highly interactive and informative. He shared the nuances of Ad film making with the media students. His session was filled with the fun by sharing his experience of working with many directors and heroes.  
 
The following session was again an interactive session with Kanal Kannan, a renowned stunt director and actor. He answered all the queries of the students related to the making action scenes and the technologies used for the stunt. He also narrated his successful life journey.  
 
The valedictory session was headed by Cheran, Film director and actor. He was the jury in selecting the best three short films from the shortlisted films. Even during this lock down, around 50 short films were registered for this short film festival. The nominated films were screened for his viewing. The makers of the nominated films narrated the plot of the films and the concept behind the themes. The winners of the national level short films were from Loyola college, Chennai, Newton T who bagged the first prize of rupees Fifteen thousand. The second prize was won by Vinmathi Ganesan, a student of Kumaraguru college of Arts and Science, Coimbatore, with a cash prize of Ten thousand and the third prize was won by B.Banu Prakash, a student of Guru Nanak College, Chennai, with a cash prize of Five thousand. 
 
The participants for the national level short film festival of other colleges across the nation were St PAULS COLLEGE,Banglore , Punjab University, Chandigarh, Surana College, Bangalore, Pondicherry University, Christ College, Thiruvananthapuram,Achariya Arts and science College, Pondicherry , Garden city university, Bangalore, Manipal Institute of Technology, Manipal and Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University Hyderabad. 
 
Around 450 participants attended LEGEND ‘20 webinar from various colleges namely SRM University, Hindustan University, Madras Christian College, Don Bosco Arts & Design College, American College, PSG College of Arts and Science, St PAULS COLLEGE,  Banglore , Punjab University, Chandigarh, Surana College and Mohammed Sathak college.
