Ever since the Sarkar first look was unveiled, the film has been embroiled in a bit of controversy as ‘Thalapathy’ Vijay had been featured in the poster smoking a cigarette.

Criticism was quick to come from Pattali Makkal Katchi leader Anbumani Ramadoss, who went on take shots on the Sarkar first look poster and then on Vijay’s depiction with a cigarette stating it will only lead to a negative influence among the youth.

Since then, various debates have taken place at prime time hours on news channels that have discussed Vijay smoking a cigarette in the Sarkar first look.

That being said, actor and former MLA Sarath Kumar, when queried during a recent media interaction on the issue went on to state, “This isn’t a serious issue as there are many pressing concerns across the country such as women’s safety, which requires a lot more attention. That needs to be given more importance”.

It must be noted Sarath Kumar’s daughter Varalaxmi Sarathkumar is playing one of the female leads in Sarkar alongside actress Keerthy Suresh under A. R. Murugadoss’s direction being produced by Sun Pictures with music by A. R. Rahman and a plan for a Diwali release.
