Leading South Indian actress Nayanthara and blockbuster director Vignesh Shivan are presenting the upcoming Tamil film Rocky under their Rowdy Pictures banner. Billed to be a dark action venture, the film starring Taramani fame Vasanth Ravi and legendary Tamil filmmaker Bharathiraja in the lead roles under debutant Arun Matheswaran's direction has been announced for a worldwide release on December 23 ahead of the Christmas holidays. Sharing a new poster from Rocky featuring Vasanth Ravi, Rowdy Pictures on Monday tweeted, "The raw and gritty world of Rocky is making its way to theatres! Rowdy Pictures is proud to present this one of a kind film. Make your way to the theatres and witness the world of Rocky from December 23rd." Check out the tweet below:

Rocky has created a lot of buzz already with its intense promos and teasers that were released sometime back showing Vasanth Ravi as an angry young man with vengeance on his mind and Bharathiraja apparently appearing in a Godfather-type character, who are supported by popular dubbing artist turned actor Raveena Ravi and Rohini in pivotal roles. The film marks Arun Matheswaran's directorial debut, who has also helmed the Keerthy Suresh and Selvaraghavan-starrer Saani Kaayidham, which is awaiting its release. Earlier, it was being speculated that Vignesh Shivan's directorial Kaathu Vaakula Rendu Kadhal also coming out under his Rowdy Pictures banner in association with Lalit Kumar's 7 Screen Studios would be hitting screens during the Holiday weekend. Those plans now seem to have taken a step back as Rocky will instead be taking up the slot that was initially being planned for the 'Makkal Selvan' Vijay Sethupathi, Nayanthara and Samantha-starrer.

Incidentally, Vignesh Shivan and Nayathara had announced last year that Rocky would be the first film they would be presenting under the Rowdy Pictures banner, with the hype for the film shooting up after they came on board. Produced by CR Manoj Kumar under the RA Studios banner, the film has music by ENPT composer Darbuka Siva, with the technical team featuring cinematography by Shreyaas Krishna, editing by Nagooran, art direction by Ramu Thangaraj and Dinesh Subbarayan done by Dinesh Subbarayan.
