Yesterday (April 12), there was a shocking incident at the Sanaur Vegetable Market, in the Patiala district of Punjab. A group of armed Nihang Sikhs had reportedly flouted the social distancing norms and when Policemen tried to stop them, it turned into a violent clash and the left hand of a 50-year-old Assistant Sub Inspector Harjeet Singh was chopped off by the gang. They then took refuge inside the Gurdwara Kichri Sahib and after a standoff, 11 culprits were arrested. The injured Policeman was immediately rushed to the PGIMER, where top surgeons were summoned and began operating on him. Now, we hear that after a marathon seven-and-a-half hours of surgery, the plastic surgeons have successfully reattached the chopped hand of the Policeman!

Dinkar Gupta, the Director Geeneral of Police (DGP) of Punjab, has been regularly updating about the situation on his Twitter handle and he his tweets state that the accused arrested in this case will be facing trial on a fast-track basis, and will face trial within the next 10 days by when the probe would be completed. He has added that anybody attacking the Police would face sure and swift consequences and deterrant action would be taken quickly, in this case. Dinkar Gupta also thanked the Director of PGI and the team of doctors and paramedics, who worked hard to ensure that Harjeet Singh's hand was reattached. He also mentioned that he had spoken to the ASI, who was in high spirits!
