A project that has generated curiosity unlike any other in recent years, the film adaptation of acclaimed Tamil writer, Kalki Krishnamurthy’s Ponniyin Selvan, has been talked about a lot ever since plans to bring it onto the visual format were proposed in 2010. Although it failed to materialize back then, the Ponniyin Selvan film adaptation under director Mani Ratnam are on track now with pre-production work already being taken care of at a steady pace over the past few months. With ‘Chiyaan’ Vikram and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan officially announced to be part of this mega project, seven-time National Award-winning lyricist Vairamuthu recently during a public meeting announced that he will be penning the lyrics for 12 songs in the Ponniyin Selvam film, which will see him reunite with Academy Award-winning composer A. R. Rahman and ace director Mani Ratnam once again. Vairamuthu further added saying the tracks will be reminiscent to the times of 12th Century and stated that fans will get to enjoy the beauty of the Tamil language with the Ponniyin Selvan songs.
