In the petition filed by a senior Chennai-based advocate AP Suryaprakasam, the petitioner has sought direction from the Madras High Court to ban the online gambling apps stating that youngsters are getting addicted to it. In his plea, advocate AP Suryaprakasam said that gambling is a criminal offense in India and there has been a recent spurt in suicides among youth in Tamil Nadu due to gambling. The petition further said that the online gambling companies are using stars like Virat Kohli and Tamannaah to brainwash youngsters and therefore, both should be arrested for it. It is understood that the petitioner filed the case after a youngster committed suicide after not being able to pay back the money he used for gambling. The petition mentioned online gambling companies are endorsing themselves through stars like Virat Kohli and Tamannaah Bhatia to brainwash youngsters and therefore, both should be arrested for it. 
 
The petitioner also highlighted the increase in the number of suicide cases lately in Tamil Nadu where youngsters took the step after losing plenty of money in online gambling. The petitioner also said that youngsters borrow money at a high-interest rate and commit suicide once they are unable to make profits at these online gambling sites. The petitioner also compared online gaming with the Blue Whale game - that had claimed several lives of youngsters who got addicted to it. "Youth begin with pocket money, income and then exhaust family savings, later lend money. When the lender goes to their residence and embarrasses them, they take the extreme step. There are many cases like this in recent times and many more such unfortunate cases will emerge in the coming months when youth are unemployed and idle," the petitioner told media. The hearing for the case will apparently be held on Tuesday, 4th of August.
