The most watched awards show in the world, the Academy Awards, also officially and popularly known as the Oscars, is held every year in Los Angeles, California, and recognizes artistes and technicians working in films in Hollywood and also from across the globe. Likewise, the screening of various films for India’s official entry for the 2020 Oscar Awards to be held next year has begun in Kolkata with three Tamil films revealed to be featured in a list that comprises of a total of 28 films. The three Tamil films in the list are director Vetrimaaran’s action gangster drama, Vada Chennai, starring Dhanush, director Thiyagarajan Kumararaja’s Super Deluxe with Vijay Sethupathi in the lead role and actor and director Parthiban’s recently released, Oththa Seruppu Size 7

The screening process for all the films had begun on September 18 and has been revealed to continue till September 22, after which an announcement will be made by a jury, which will decide the official Indian entry for Oscars 2020. The jury comprises of Aparna Sen as the Chairperson of the committee followed by Padmanabha Das, Pratim Gupta, Sujay Dutta Ray, Debojyoti Mishra and Ashok Vishwanath. Some of the other notable films include Article 15, UriGully Boy, Badhaai Ho, Badlaa, and Andhadhun in Hindi, Dear Comrade in Telugu, And the Oscar goes to… in Malayalam and many other ventures.
