Ninaithale Inikkum: The name still spells magic

Movies with friendship as the theme have invariably done well. K. Balachander's musical delight Ninaithale Inikkum is stillfresh in our memories. Director Kumaravelan(son of well known film-maker G.N. Rangarajan) has nowused the same title forthe Tamil version of the Malayalam hit Classmates.Of course, he obtained permissionfrom KB to retain the title and was alsoblessed with agood-luck message.

Promising that the plot differs from that of the original, Kumaravelanfeels Tamil audiences would not relate to the communism factor which was the cornerstone of the original. “It wasa dauntingtask to convincelead actor Prithviraj (hero of Classmates) toaccept the modified version. Priyamani wasgiventhe task ofreprising the role of Kavya Madhavan,” said the director, pleased how the movie has shaped up.

What about the songs? “The Tamil versionwill pale in comparison to the original, but in quality, it will hold its own,” he says.
