This is NOT for media buzz - it is to spread awareness and the word on how the people of the country are outraged at the heinous crimes being committed against fellow human beings, especially young girls and children. The latest Delhi gang rape incident is one of the latest in the spate of reported crimes creating waves of fury and shock across the country.

Galatta joins the entire nation, including everyone from the movie industry, in expressing disgust at this horrible act of cruelty. Like man, we too believe that what this country needs is and a firm, swift action policy against such criminals; as well as a sweep of awareness and education campaigns across the country.

What India needs is a wake up call or shock treatment that doesn't have just police and legal action, but also change within society. We need a shakeup where men and women are taught the importance of the female factor in society, taught to respect women and children are raised on this principle of respect and compassion. On this issue, we are heartened to see a great many movie celebrities - who are some of the most powerful movers and shakers in society - express their anger, sadness and concern for such issues, after the Delhi incident.

Of all the things the general public is influenced by the stars on, we at Galatta hope that these words and emotions will be on top of the list!

STARS SPEAK OUT:

Shekhar Kapur @shekharkapur - If something deep in society has 2 change, it has 2 cut across divisions such as police, politicians and d rest of us. V all have 2 change. Every social n professional community needs 2 ask, what can we do 2 change attitudes 2wards women? That includes Media

Sunder Ramu @sunderramu - When a 5 year old gets raped in her house do u blame what she was wearing and what time of the night n where she was? Heinous n no excuse. Sick with some of these arguments. We need to stop making excuses for these disgusting crimes.

Pia Bajpai @piaabajpai - Ppl who keep blaming to Western dresses for rape n all I think they forgot that saaree is far sexier than any western dress. N wat they wanna say that village girls who always keep themselves covered never get raped..!!!??

Preity Zinta @realpreityzinta - Security 4 women in India is our FUNDAMENTAL RIGHT ! Why can't a WOMEN'S SECURITY BILL be passed in Parliament ? WHY ????

Priyanka Chopra @priyankachopra - It's so scary that an independent woman in her own country cannot take a bus without the fear of being attacked.. This is not just a crime against women.. It's a crime against society.. With so much being said about how women need to dress appropriately or behave appropriately.. I find this whole dialogue absurd.. A woman is not raped because She's out at night or wearing a short dress or drinking.. She's raped cause SOMEONE bloody RAPED HER!! And there is no excuse or explanation for that!! Small men who feel powerful by taking on a young girl minding her own business?! Living her beautiful life?! Why Kind of a democracy r we living in? Where a girl can't be all she is wants to be just out of fear if Man!! Is this India Shining?? Is this even India? Whr is the fear if the law? Of the Govt? It's shameful!

Chetan Bhagat @chetan_bhagat - Things make us angry, but barbarism should not be answered with barbarism. Be mindful and take rational, strict but civilized action.

Farhan Akhtar ?@FarOutAkhtar - Yes we can stoop lower as a people. The Delhi bus gang rape is proof of that. Is justice asleep?

Amitabh Bachchan @SrBachchan - Wanted to say so much of the day .. but so disturbed by the gang rape case in Delhi .. atrocious and unforgivable !!

Rahul Bose @RahulBose1 - Gangrape and beating of girl in delhi today continues an urban trend of the sickening brutalisation of women.

This is just a sample of the wave of protests and comments by our concerned celebrities. It's heartening to see they are united in their response. Now we will see if society will start to change for the better, with such crimes coming to the public's knowledge
