Thalapathy Vijay's 2017 blockbuster movie Mersal played a major role in the star's career graph. The action thriller directed by Atlee marked the second outing for the hit combo of Vijay and Atlee. The story is co-written by Atlee, KV Vijayendra Prasad and S Ramana Girivasan (dialogues). Mersal was a treat for Vijay fans as the movie had Vijay portraying three different roles. Vijay has three beautiful ladies Samantha, Kajal Aggarwal, and Nithya Menon for each one of his roles in the movie. SJ Surya gave a banging performance as the villain in Mersal. The movie also featured Sathyaraj, Vadivelu, Kovai Sarala, Sathyan and Rajendran in supporting roles.
Mersal was also a landmark film for the producers Thenandal Studios as it marked their 100th production venture. The background score and soundtrack were composed by AR Rahman and the track Azhaporan Tamizhan is one for the ages. The cinematography was done by GK Vishnu and editing was done by Ruben.
Vijay has a wide fan base in the southern part of the country and eying that fan crowd Mersal was dubbed in other languages as well. In Telugu, Mersal released under the title Adirindhi and was tasted big success. And now, two years after the release, the movie has been released on YouTube. The video has crossed the 1.5 Million mark in just 3 days which is very high for a dubbed movie.
