Memorial announced for Dr. Vishnuvardhan

Karnataka chief minister B.S. Yediyurappa has allocated two acres of land next to Abhiman Studio on Mysore Road for the memorial of Dr. Vishnuvardhan. The chief minister has also announced Rs. 10 crores for the memorial.

This morning, Karnataka Chief Minister B.S. Yediyurappa and his cabinet colleagues visited the residence of Dr. Vishnuvardhan at 4th T block Jayanagar, where his body was brought from Mysore and placed for a few hours. Meanwhile, there has been a huge turnout for a last look at matinee idol Dr. Vishnuvardhan. Two persons committed suicide in Mysore district.

At the National College grounds (in the busy locality of Basavanagudi) where the body of Dr. Vishnuvardhan is placed, there has been much disturbance. Dr. Vishnuvardhan completed his graduation from this college. At least 20 persons and a few police personnel were injured with the fans going berserk. One person was injured by rubber bullets fired by the police at the National College grounds where the body of Dr. Vishnuvardhan is kept for public viewing. (To control the massive turnout the police had to use rubber bullets in some cases, teargas shells.)

At the National College grounds, Karnataka Governor H.R. Bharadwaj, Mohan Babu, Suhasini Mani Ratnam, Tamil actor Sarathkumar, Radikaa and many others paid their last respects.
