In a poll conducted by a leading TV channel to find out India's greatest film till date, Telugu film Mayabazar has topped the charts followed by supehit Malayalam films Manichitrathazhu and Oru Vadakkan Veeragatha.

One of the enduring classics of Indian cinema, Mayabazar is considered as a landmark in cinematography, art direction and visual effects with the technology available at that time. NTR immortalized the role of Krishna in this flick and he went on to play the same role in 17 more time.

Directed by Fazil, Manichitrathazhu won Shobana a National award for her superlative performance and the film was also remade in Hindi, Bangla, Tamil and Telugu. Mammootty won the Best Actor National Award for Oru Vadakkan Veeragatha, a period drama directed by Hariharan.
