Legendary director Bharathiraja's Sigappu Rojakkal is considered to be a cult film in Tamil cinema which was raved for its bold content. The film was inspired by serial killer Raman Raghav's crimes and it was contrastingly different from Bharathiraja's previous movies. The film completed a 175 day run at the box office and was a big blockbuster. Sigappu Rojakkal starred Kamal Haasan and Sridevi in the lead roles, while Goundamani and Vadivukkarasi formed the supporting cast. The film had music composed by Isaignani Ilaiyaraaja.

Recently, there were wide speculations that the sequel to Sigappu Rojakkal is going to be made and this got the fans quite excited. The reports stated that Bharathiraja's son Manoj Bharathiraja will direct Sigappu Rojakkal 2 and it will be produced by Bharathiraja. Having said that, Manoj Bharathiraja has now made an important clarification regarding the hot rumour. He said that the ongoing speculations regarding Sigappu Rojakkal 2 is not true. Additionally, he said that the official announcement will be made when everything falls in place.

He tweeted, "Recently there is a lot of news about about #SigappuRojakkal2 Which is not true. Once things fall in place, me and my dad @offBharathiraja Will make an official announcement. Thanks for your concern. @onlynikil". Well, we hope this puts the rumours to rest. For the unversed, Manoj Bharathiraja made his debut as an actor in Tamil cinema with Taj Mahal and after that he acted in films like Samudhiram, Alli Arjuna, Varushamellam Vasantham, Maha Nadigan, Annakodi, etc.

He was last seen playing a pivotal character in director Susienthiran's Champion that starred debutant Roshan and Mirnalini Ravi in the lead roles. Manoj Bharathiraja's performance in the film received a good response from the audience.

Up next, he will be seen in an important role in STR's political drama, Maanaadu, directed by Venkat Prabhu. Produced by Suresh Kamatchi, Maanaadu's star cast also includes the likes of S.J.Surya, Bharathiraja, S.A.Chandrasekhar, Kalyani Priyadarshan, Karunakaran, Premgi Amaran, Daniel Annie Pope, and others.
