One of Indian Cinema's pioneer director Dr. K Balachander's birthday is coming up on July 9th. As a token of respect, the late director's birthday will mark the launch of a foundation under his name. Ulaganayagan Padmabhushan Kamal Haasan who was very close to the director will preside over the launch which is to be held in Chennai on July 9th.

It is well known that the veteran director appeared for the last time on screen in Kamal Haasan's Uttama Villain. And so the film will be screened on the day of the function followed by the distribution of awards for the best small screen and big screen achievers. A special song for K. Balachander will also be presented by lyricist Vairamuthu, set to tune by Ramesh Vinayagam.

During the show, various awards will be distributed under the director's name, such as the Balachander Award for Best Drama goes to Kathadi Ramamurthy, the Balachander Award for Best Film is for (Kaaka Muttai) Manikandan , the Balachander Small Screen Award is for director and producer Thirumurugan and the Bala kailasam small screen award goes to writer, Ramakrishnan. The event, which is to be held in Rajarathinam stadium in Chennai, will be attended by various small screen and big screen artistes.
