Yesterday, the 15th of August apart from the Independence Day, also marked the occasion of Upakarma aka Avani Avittam. It is a Vedic ritual practised by the people of a certain community. On that note, Madhavan had posted a picture with his father and son, on his social media handle and wished his fans and followers for the Independence Day, Raksha Bandhan and Avani Avittam. In the background, there was a cross along with the other idols. A follower who noticed it, wrote on her twitter, "Why do they have a across in the background?! Is that a Mandir? You just lost my respect. Do you find Hindu Gods in Christian churches? All this is fake drama you did today!"

The cross

As a fitting reply to this, Madhavan has penned a note stating that he has been taught since his childhood to maintain his identity and to respect each and every faith, belief and religion. He also stressed on the point that he strongly believes in the Tamil saying "Yemmaddhamum Samadham", which translates to"I respect each religion as my own". Furthermore, he added that he has prayed at every Darga, Gurudwara and Church. Check out the rest of his note, below!
