Vijay Sethupathi has collaborated with filmmaker Seenu Ramasamy and this marks their fourth project together after 2010's Thenmerku Paruvakaatru, 2013's Idam Porul Yaeval, and 2016's Dharma Durai. The upcoming drama film is written and directed by Seenu Ramasamy and bankrolled by Yuvan Shankar Raja under his YSR Productions banner. The film stars Vijay Sethupathi, Gayathrie  while K.P.A.C. Lalitha, Anikha and Guru Somasundaram will appear in crucial roles. In addition, Yuvan composed the soundtrack of this film along with his father, Maestro Ilaiyaraaja, while the cinematography and editing of the film are taken up by M. Sukumar and A. Sreekar Prasad, respectively.

Maamanithan will cater to the family audience as it attempts to spell out the struggles of a typical middle-class and the extent the man of the family would go to provide what they need. Vijay Sethupathi will be seen in the role of an auto driver called Radhakrishnan in the movie while Gayathri Shankar will be taking on the role of his wife.

A new update regarding the movie has just surfaced. Director R.Seenu Ramasamy took to his Twitter handle to announce that a trailer as well as a song from Maamanithan will release tomorrow on Saturday (April 16) at 6 pm. He shared a picture of the trailer's censor certificate from the Central Board of Film Certification along with a caption that read, "#MamanithanTrailer & song Release on Saturday Tomorrow 6 pm.", followed by a series of tags of all those involved in the movie.

Apart from this, Vijay Sethupathi is awaiting the release of Lokesh Kanagaraj's action drama, Vikram, headlined by Kamal Haasan with Fahadh Faasil in a crucial role. The highly anticipated film is scheduled to release on June 3. He is also busy with Sriram Raghavan’s festive thriller Merry Christmas. He will be seen sharing the screen with Katrina Kaif and Sanjay Kapoor in the film marking his acting debut in Bollywood.
