'Ulaganayagan' Kamal Haasan's highly-anticipated Vikram directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj is set to open in cinemas worldwide on June 3 and the excitement among fans is at an all-time high now. Featuring music by Anirudh Ravichander, the action thriller also stars National Award winners 'Makkal Selvan' Vijay Sethupathi and Malayalam actor Fahadh Faasil in key roles, and expectations for the film in the trade are largely positive, especially after the astounding feedback the team received during the audio launch recently. As fans count down the days for Vikram's release, director Lokesh Kanagaraj recently sat down for an interview with National Award-winning film critic Baradwaj Rangan, the Editor-in-Chief of Galatta Plus, and revealed whether the film is indeed a spin-off to Kamal Haasan's 1986 spy thriller, which as well was titled Vikram

Speaking about the upcoming Vikram being a spin-off to Kamal Haasan's 1986 film of the same title, Lokesh states, "I wasn't looking to break that fourth dimension wall because it's already Vikram. I wrote the story based on the 'What If?' scenario where the character from that film would appear here. When the film and its characters are already in existence, I do not wish to break that dimension wall. I've left those elements as they are." Lokesh Kanagaraj has often expressed his admiration for Kamal Haasan and he shared his experiences working with the iconic actor in Vikram. The Master director said, "I'm a fanboy myself; almost like a boy lost in a theme park. If there's a break in between filming, I go and sit by Kamal sir's side and ask him about his past films."

Jointly produced by Kamal Haasan and Mahendran under the Raaj Kamal Films International banner, Vikram also has an ensemble star cast featuring the likes of Narain, Chemban Vinod, Kalidas Jayaram, Gayathrie, Elango Kumaravel, and Santhana Bharathi in important roles, while Bigg Boss Tamil season 4 sensation Shivani Narayanan and popular television actresses Maheswari Chanakyan and Myna Nandhini will also be making appearances in the film.
