Tamil Nadu's state-run TASMAC on Wednesday announced new timings for customers of different age groups who want to buy liquor in their outlets, which will begin functioning once again after reopening on May 7. As per a new directive, TASMAC has allotted timings for three different age groups, who want to buy liquor in their outlets across the state with the exclusion of nearby areas of Chennai city (Chengalpattu, Kanchipuram and Tiruvallur districts) due to the sharp rise in the number of positive coronavirus cases.

Below are the timings for each age group to buy alcohol in TASMAC outlets in TN:

1) Age 50 and above - 10AM to 1PM

 2) Ages 40-50 - 1PM to 3PM

3) Age 40 and below: 3PM to 5PM

The Tamil Nadu government has also issued a list of rules and regulations to be followed by the police at TASMAC shops across the state, which will be reopened from May 7( with the exception of Chennai). In the new directive, two constables, two home guards/volunteer, need to be on duty at each TASMAC shop. If possible, more than one counter for selling liquor needs to be created while barricades are also to be erected with vigil to be maintained on whether social distancing is being carried out properly and the overall in-charge person to be the Inspector/Sub Inspector of the area.
