Local heroines find fame in 2010

In 2010, Kannada heroines dominated screen space, while lesser opportunities were provided to non Kannada heroines. Radhika Pandit from Honnavara, Aindrita Ray and Nidhi Subbaiah from Bengaluru, Raagini (again a local gal) and Ramya were the pick of the lot among local heroines who made a big impression. Local gal Priyamani also made an impact through Eno Onthara, though it flopped.

Pooja Gandhi has almost become a Kannada based actress through her debut film Mungaru Male. She had a bad year with Minugu, Naa Rani Nee Maharani, Sri Harikathe and other films failing to click. Still Pooja remained the top brand ambassador of Sandalwood.

Most of the films with non-local heroines failed in the box office, while local girls Radhika Pandit, Aindrita and Nidhi Subbaiah tasted big success through their films; local beauty queen Raagini had a mild hit Shankar IPS, in which her glamour quotient was the major attraction.

Four heroines from Kerala -- Nayanthara, Bhavana, Parvathi Menon and Bhama -- gave notable performances in their films this year.

Local girls are now getting priority and more Kannada film producers are preferring to cast Kannada speaking heroines rather than Mumbai- and Chennai-based heroines, who have not been able to make a big impact on box office fortunes.

2010 belonged to actress Radhika Pandit; her performance in Krishnan Love Story and Gaana Bajana were received well. She bagged the State award for her 2008-2009 performances. She also is currently acting opposite Power Star Puneeth Rajkumar in the Kannada version of Nadodigal titled Hudugaru.
