Awe, a small budgeted experimental film produced by Nani, took everyone by surprise as it bagged the National Award for Best Make-up and Best Visual Effects. Following that, Rahul Ravindran's first directorial venture Chi La Sow, was given the Best Original Screenplay Award. Chi La Sow actually follows along the lines of movies like Pelli Choopulu which won the same award in 2017 and Baahubali, which won it for 2016. Interestingly, Pelli Choopulu also won the National Award for Best Dialogues.
