Jigarthanda is a 2014 Tamil action film helmed by Karthik Subbaraj starring Siddharth, Bobby Simha, Lakshmi Menon, and Karunakaran. The film received instead widespread critical acclaim upon its release and went on to be a cult classic. The film released way back on 1 August 2014

Today marks 8 years since the release of Jigarthanda. Director Karthik Subbaraj took to his official Twitter handle and subtly dropped a hint at a sequel to the hit film. He shared a small clip featuring some BTS footage from the film that intercuts with someone preparing a tall glass of the titular beverage. Just as the drink gets ready, another tall glass is placed next to it, hinting at a sequel in the making. Sharing this he also wrote a caption that read, "#8yearsofJigarthanda And..... ". According to the video shared by Karthik, Jigarthanda 2 is in the scripting stage. But no other detail has been revealed. Therefore, we do not know if the story will pick up where it left off or if it will start will a whole new story with a whole new cast. One can only wait and see. 

Jigarthanda was such a great success that it went on to win two National Film Awards for Best Supporting Actor for Bobby Simha and Best Editing for Vivek Harshan. It was also remade in Kannada under the same title, in Telugu as Gaddalakonda Ganesh starring Varun Tej and Pooja Hegde, and in Hindi called Bachchhan Paandey starring Akshay Kumar, Kriti Sanon, and Jacqueline Fernandez was inspired by Jigarthanda.

The story of Jigarthanda revolves around an aspiring director who tries his best to make a violent gangster film by drawing inspiration from the life of a real-life gangster for his feature film. His discreet attempts to research a gangster fails miserably when he gets caught by the leader Sethu for snooping on them. What follows is a gruesome story filled with many twists and turns along its way.
