Karthi is currently busy shooting for his next film, Viruman which is directed by Muthaiya of Kutti Puli and Komban fame. Viruman is a film that excited the fans and film buffs ever since it's announcement and it is going to be interesting to see Karthi in a full-fledged rural action film after a long time. Having said that, Karthi recently took to his Instagram page to share an update that the shooting of Viruman is currently happening at Madurai. While talking about it, Karthi also mentioned that it has been 14 years since he stepped inside Madurai and felt happy about it.

Karthi's official social media post read, "Back in Madurai after 14 years for #Viruman. Happy to hear people still talking about #Paruthiveeran. The warmth and the love of people here remains unchanged. Feeling Blessed and Thankful!". Viruman is produced by Suriya and Jyotika under the banner of 2D Entertainment and has music composed by Yuvan Shankar Raja. Blockbuster director Shankar's daughter, Aditi Shankar will be making her debut as a lead actor with this film and she will be seen playing the love interest of Karthi.

Rajkiran, Prakash Raj, and Soori would be seen playing pivotal characters. Viruman is scheduled to release in theatres during the summer of 2022. Viruman has cinematography by Selvakumar SK of Maanagaram fame. Karthi is also simultaneously shooting for his other film, Sardar which is helmed by PS Mithran of Irumbu Thirai and Hero fame. Produced by Prince Pictures, Sardar has music by GV Prakash. Raashi Khanna, Rajisha Vijayan and Simran play important roles in this action drama that will have Karthi playing dual roles. Sardar is expected to showcase Karthi in a new dimension.

Apart from Viruman and Sardar, Karthi also has Ponniyin Selvan which has got huge expectations among the film buffs. Karthi will be seen playing the role of Vandiyathevan in this historical epic directed by Mani Ratnam. Chiyaan Vikram, Jayam Ravi, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, and Trisha play the other leads of Ponniyin Selvan.
