Kannada superstar Vishnuvardhan is no more

Kannada superstar Vishnuvardhan, 59, popularly referred to as the Phoenix of Kannada cinema, died of a heart attack in Mysore on Wednesday morning. The actor developed breathing problems at about 2:30 a.m. on Wednesday and was immediately taken to a private hospital where he breathed his last.

According to hospital sources, he died at around 3:00 a.m. Vishnuvardhan is survived by his actress-wife Bharathi Vishnuvardhan and daughters Keerthi and Chandana.

The Karnataka government has ordered a state funeral. All schools and colleges in Karnataka will remain closed on Wednesday as per Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa's orders as a mark of respect for Vishnuvardhan. The funeral procession will begin from the actor’s residence to the Jayanagar Cosmopolitan Club grounds.

Vishnuvardhan, known for his superb performances in Nagarahaavu, Aaptha Mithra, Bandhana, Suprabhatha, Laali, Muththina Haara and Maathaad Maathaad Mallige, has acted in 199 films. He won many prestigious awards including seven best state actor awards and five Filmfare awards. He has also sung a number of songs and lately had sung devotional songs.
