Legendary Indian theatre director, actor and drama teacher Ebrahim Alkazi passed away on August 4 due to a massive cardiac arrest. He was 94 years old when he breathed his last. Alkazi was a very notable figure in the Indian theatre scene and he created a revolution through his vision and meticulousness of his technical discipline. Ebrahim Alkazi trained well known actors and directors including Vijaya Mehta, Om Puri, Naseeruddin Shah, Manohar Singh, Uttara Baokar, Jyoti Subhash, B Jayashree, Rohini Hattangadi and others.

He is also a recipient of Padma Shri, Padma Bhushan and Padma Vibhushan awards. Ebrahim's son Feisal Alkazi confirmed the death news through an official statement which read, "Dad died this evening at 2.45 pm after a massive heart attack. He was admitted to the Escorts hospital the day before yesterday”. Having said that, leading actors and celebrities have been expressing their condolence messages on social media.

Actor Kamal Haasan mourned the death of Ebrahim Alkazi through his tweet which read, "A beacon of Indian theatre art and mentor of many great actors, Mr. Ebrahim Alkazi will be remembered for many generations. His love for theatre and the art is unmatched. My deepest condolences to the family and the NSD family".

Similarly, Bollywood actors Nawazuddin Siddiqui and Randeep Hooda also shared their condolence messages. Nawazuddin wrote, "The true architect of the Modern Indian Theatre. The Doyen who possessed the extreme knowledge in all the aspects of ART. The magician who nurtured many greats of theatre. May your brightest spark from the heaven keeps us enlightening #EbrahimAlkazi #RIP". Randeep Hooda tweeted, "The Guru of Gurus so many have learnt from and tried to emulate .. Ebrahim Alkazi - the real father of Modern Indian Theatre .. may the light you shone keep shining through countless others as it shines through now .. Rest in Peace Sir 🙏🏽 condolences to the family".

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his grief by tweeting, "His contributions to the world of art and culture are noteworthy ... Shri Ebrahim Alkazi will be remembered for his efforts to make theatre more popular and accessible across India".
