K.J. Yesudas: 50 years of excellence

His voice have touched many a heart, transformed many a life! In fact there is simply no music-lover who has not admired his singing. Fondly known as Gana Gandharvan or Dasettan, Indian music legend K.J. Yesudas' career has completed it's golden jubilee year today. 50,000 film songs in more that 12 Indian languages and five foreign languages, there is no doubt that he is the darling of masses and classes. Yesudas sang his first song in late M.B. Sreenivas' Malayalam film Kalppadukal on November 14, 1961. And the rest was history! He went on to become one of the finest playback singers in Indian history. From G. Deverajan to A.R. Rahman, he has worked with almost all the top music directors in the country.

His ability to modulate his voice perfectly, great versatility, rare quality of voice and mellifluous tone made him one of the best in the country. Yesudas has sung songs in Tamil, Hindi, Kannada, Telugu, Hindi, Bengali, Gujarati, Odiya, Marathi, Punjabi, Sanskrit, Tulu and foreign languages like Malay, Russian, Arabic, Latin and English.

He is the recipient of seven Nation awards and 34 state awards (24 in Kerala, 5 in TN, 4 in AP, 5 in Karnataka and 1 in WB).
