Kamal Haasan’s Indian 2 has been a project that has kept fans hooked in anticipation ever since it was announced earlier this year. Director Shankar is joining hands with the actor turned politician after two decades when they first made the blockbuster, Indian, in 1996, with Lyca Productions producing the upcoming sequel, which will also include music by Anirudh Ravichander. Although filming kicked off in January, production on Indian 2 was put on a halt owing to Kamal Haasan’s Makkal Needhi Maiam party contesting in the 2019 Lok Sabha Election. Since then, there were numerous reports stating the film was shelved due to financial reasons, but it was later revealed by reputed National Award-winning editor Sreekar Prasad in an interview that filming would resume soon. Now, it is said that the film will roll into production from August 19 at Rajahmundry in Andhra Pradesh, with possible plans to bring it out in theatres sometime in 2020-21. Likewise, Lyca Productions have now officially put out a casting call for supporting roles in the film for both male and female with no age restictions.
Apart from Kamal Haasan, Indian 2 has Kajal Aggarwal, Siddharth, Aishwarya Rajesh, Priya Bhavani Shankar, Rakul Preet Singh and Vidyut Jamwal in vital roles with the supporting cast also including names like Delhi Ganesh, Yogi Babu among others. Indian 2 has a strong technical team among whom are Ravi Varman handling cinematography and T. Muthuraj taking care of production design. There are massive expectations for the film, which many are expecting to be on the lines of an intense political action thriller, with fans quite curious to witness how Kamal Haasan’s Senapathy character will be reprised after the events of Indian.
