I'll make movies for the mass and the class: Madhur Bhandarkar

Showcasing reality is the forte of famous director Madhur Bhandarkar, who said that his job is to make movies for the masses. "I have had my share of problems getting an inside view of realistic subjects. People are not cooperative any more. Sometimes, I have to interact with hundreds of people just to get a clear picture of a story. Nonetheless, what matters in the end is that all the running around is worth it," says Madhur with a chuckle.

Recalling his past, Madhur said he was a school dropout who worked hard to learn the ropes and make a name for himself. "Today, I have gained fame at the critics' stage, box office and at the national level too. But it has come with a price. Many people, some of them even my friends, shun me because they fear that one day I will make a movie on them. It upsets me, but one has to get on with life," he said.

Madhur said what keeps him going is his knack of choosing his cast, some of whom were not big names before being taken under his reputed banner. "What matters is that they are talented and have ultimately proved their worth. The fact that they have been at the right place and the right time also helped."

Of his future goals, Madhur said he would try his hand at making a romantic-comedy flick for the mass audience. "I would not like to try my hand at an exclusive Konkani film, but would like to make a mix of Konkani-Marathi-Hindi film," said Madhur in parting.
