Bala's Tharai Thappattai is all set to grace the theatres this weekend. The film, which focuses on the traditional dance form Karagatam, has Saiskumar and Varalakshmi in the lead. Interestingly, Sasikumar assisted Bala in Sethu and considers himself as his disciple. "I didn’t stand before him as an actor but as a disciple would in front of his guru." the actor was quoted saying to a leading daily.

When asked more about the film, he said, "I play Sannasi, a person who runs this Thaarai Thappattai troupe. My character is one that can play all the musical instruments, including the nadaswaram and the thavil. Varalakshmi plays Sooravali, an artist in this troupe. The story is set in Tanjore. We stayed in a colony there and shot the film."
