Veteran actor Ambarish, who is the Rebel Star of Sandalwood, celebrates his 60th birthday today. Galatta.com wishes the actor a happy birthday and a wonderful future ahead.

Ambarish, was born in Doddarasinakere village, Mandya district, Karnataka on May 29, 1952. He spent most of his growing up years in Mysore, under the guidance of his maternal grandfather Tirumakudalu Chowdiah, who is a musician. He married Sumalatha on December 8, 1991.

Ambarish made his debut in Kannada film industry through the movie Naagara Haavu (1972), by playing a cameo. He even performed villain and supporting roles during the initial stages of his career. The actor made his debut as the lead with the film Amarnath (1980), which was a blockbuster. The film was later remade in Hindi, Tamil and Telugu languages as well.

The star has acted in over 200 films till date. He played the role of Lord Yama in the recently released Katari Veera Surasundarangi (2012) that is still gaining positive responses from all the quarters. The star is currently busy with Sandalwood films Drama and Bulbul.

The actor has won Karnataka State Award for the films Antha, Masanada Hoovu, and  Puttana Kanagal. He has also received Filmfare Award for the Best Actor for the film Olavina Udugore. He has also been awarded with Filmfare Lifetime Achievement Award.

The Rebel Star was elected as a Lok Sabha member thrice in his political career. He was also elected as the Minister of State, in the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting. But, the star resigned his position later.
