G. V. Prakash Kumar's long-awaited film, Jail, directed by acclaimed Tamil filmmaker Vasanthabalan has been confirmed for a theatrical release on December 9. The news was revealed on social media with a new poster featuring the composer turned actor along with the announcement that the film's distribution in Tamil Nadu will be done by Mr. Subbaiya's SSI Productions. Earlier, Studio Green had come on board to distribute Vasanthabalan's Jail and it seems they are no longer associated with the film, with no reason revealed yet. Check out the Jail release date announcement below:

Jail has created a strong buzz among fans and the film trade as it marks Vasanthabalan's comeback after a gap of 6 years when he last made the critically-acclaimed historical drama film Kaaviya Thalaivan, which incidentally fetched him the prestigious Norway Tamil Film Festival for Best Director. Vasanthabalan, who is known for penning strong emotional characters in his films, most notably in Veyil and Angaadi Theru, will be looking forward to witness the audiences' reception for his Jail, which has been produced by Sridharan Mariathasan under the Krikes Cine Creations banner.

Expectations for Jail are quite high considering the songs and the release promos have received a strong response from fans, with the team currently high in hopes for a positive feedback after the film's theatrical release. GV Prakash is also the man of the hour as his Bachelor will be hitting screens on December 3 after which Jail is coming out the next week. He will be looking to hit the bullseye with Jail after the action thriller Sivappu Manjal Pachai's success in 2019. GV Prakash, who has also composed the music for Jail, will be seen romancing Abarnathi, with the film's supporting cast also featuring names like Radikaa Sarathkumar, Pasanga Paandi, Nadan Ram, and Ravi Maria.
