Popular English singer, model and actress Sarah Harding, best known as a member of the British pop group Girls Aloud, died of breast cancer away on Sunday morning. She was 39. The tragic news was announced by Harding's mother Marie Hardman in a heartfelt statement on the singer's Instagram account. She posted, "It’s with deep heartbreak that today I’m sharing the news that my beautiful daughter Sarah has sadly passed away. Many of you will know of Sarah’s battle with cancer and that she fought so strongly from her diagnosis until her last day. She slipped away peacefully this morning. I’d like to thank everyone for their kind support over the past year. It meant the world to Sarah and it gave her great strength and comfort to know she was loved. I know she won’t want to be remembered for her fight against this terrible disease – she was a bright shining star and I hope that’s how she can be remembered instead."

Sarah Harding first revealed the news of her battle and diagnosis with breast cancer in August 2020. She then spoke about how the cancer had become terminal in March 2021. Harding became a sensation in 2002 when she won a spot in the pop group Girls Aloud after she auditioned for the ITV reality series Popstars: The Rivals. She earned a place in the band along with Cheryl Cole, Kimberley Walsh, Nadine Coyle and Nicola Roberts and the five went on to collaborate together for four No. 1 singles and 20 top 10 singles in the U.K., including successfully releasing six platinum-certified albums. Girls Aloud with Harding also won a BRIT Award for Best Single for their song, The Promise, in 2009. The group celebrated their 10th anniversary in 2012, but disbanded in 2013. Harding eventually released her first solo EP, Threads, in 2015, while also emerging as the winner of Celebrity Big Brother 20 in 2017. Apart from her passion for singing, Harding shared an interest for acting and landed starring roles in films like Bad Day, Freefall, Run for Your Wife and St. Trinian’s 2: The Legend of Fritton’s Gold to name a notable few, while also making an appearance in the popular British soap opera Coronation Street.
