Former South African cricketer Ewie Cronje passed away on Monday (May 11) afternoon after losing his lengthy battle with cancer. He was 80 years old and died at his home in Bloemfontein. Ewie Cronje played 27 first-class matches between 1960 and 1972. He was the father of Hansie Cronje and Frans Cronje. Hansie Cronje Cronje was a popular South African cricketer who captained Proteas during the late 90s.  
 
Cronje’s son second son Frans, broke the news on Facebook - “My dad went to be with Lord at 2:05 pm this afternoon. He was at peace and we are so thankful for the full life he had and wonderful dad that he was. From my mom, my sister and me, thank you so much for all the wonderful messages of the last few months. We will not be able to answer phone calls today, but will read every Whats App and other message. With much love...
