Nelson Dilipkumar is easily one of the most up-and-coming directors in the Tamil film industry. He has firmly planted his place among other greats after delivering quality films. His first film, Kolamaavu Kokila, sky-rocketed him into fame and there was no stopping him after that. This has made Nelson a highly sought-after and favourite director for many people.

During the annual award ceremony Galatta Crown 2022, hosted by Galatta Media on 8 May 2022, Nelson was awarded the Favorite Director accolade for the year 2021-2022 for making Doctor starring Sivakarthikeyan which was released last year on 9 October 2021. The director accepted the award wholeheartedly from his close friend Anirudh Ravichander, with whom he has collaborated on all his films.
After accepting the award, Nelson started by thanking the three most important people(s). After being unable to meet Lady Superstar Nayanthara for a while, he took the opportunity to thank her as she believed in him while starring in his first directorial debut Kolamaavu Kokila. He went on to thank Anirudh Ravichander. He specifically thanked these two as they were the ones who were at the starting point of his career and made his journey possible. Finally, he primarily thanked all the fans for their support through the years as they made it possible to be a commercial success via word of mouth.
Since he won an award for Doctor, he went on to thank actor Sivakarthikeyan who also produced it under his banner Sivakarthikeyan Productions. He also thanked the cast, crew, and especially the film technicians without whom it would not have been possible to achieve this spectacle. Nelson also mentions that the only thing he had planned was Kolamaavu Kokila and whatever came after (Doctor and Beast) was a result of its success. He did not have a plan for making the following films and neither does he have a plan for what is to come.
And speaking of plans now, Nelson is currently working with Superstar Rajinikanth. Yet again an Anirudh musical, the film was tentatively titled Thalaivar 169 for a long time. On 17 June 2022, the title of the film was finally revealed - JAILER!
