Dhanush's Thiruchitrambalam finally hit the screens today (August 18) and the film marks the versatile actor's first theatrical release in 16 months with his last theatre release being Karnan. The film has been released on over 300 movie screens all over Tamil Nadu and is expected to have an extended weekend at the box office. 

The first day first show for the film began at 8 AM across the state. Staunch fans of the actor gathered in large numbers in theatres to enjoy the release of their favorite actor's film. Fans were seen celebrated as Dhanush's film has been released in theatres after nearly a year. But it was a very special moment for those who got to watch Thiruchitrambalam FDFS at Rohini theatre in Chennai as both Dhanush and Anirudh Ravichander were also part of the audience for the show. Dhanush and Anirudh got a huge shout-out from the fans, and pictures and videos from the Thiruchitrambalam FDFS have been going viral across various social media platforms. Dhanush was spotted in a new look with a thick beard and long hair. It looks as if he is preparing to begin shooting for Captain Miller with director Arun Matheswaran.

Thiruchitrambalam has been written and directed by Mithran R Jawahar. Produced by Kalanithi Maran under the banner of Sun Pictures, the film stars Dhanush in the titular role along with Raashi Khanna, Nithya Menen, Priya Bhavani Shankar, Bharathiraja, and Prakash Raj among others in prominent roles. The film's music and score is composed by Anirudh Ravichander, with cinematography by Om Prakash and editing done by Prasanna GK.

Meanwhile, on the work front, Dhanush was last seen making his big Hollywood debut with the Netflix film The Gray Man starring alongside Ana De Armas, Chris Evans and Ryan Gosling in this Russo Brothers directorial. Dhanush is currently shooting for Captain Miller and is gearing up for the release of Naane Varuven directed by his brother Selvaraghavan and the bilingual film Vaathi; Sir in Telugu, which will mark his debut in Tollywood.
