Tamil Nadu government on Friday as part of its daily updates on the state's response to the coronavirus pandemic informed the media that the official number for COVID-19 cases in the state on May 22 are 786 new cases. The state's total positive coronavirus cases has now risen to 14,753 among which Chennai district has registered 569 new cases taking the city's total to 9,364 cases with Chengalpattu and Thiruvallur recording 655 and 636 cases to date.

Four people succumbed to their deaths on Friday as a result of the novel coronavirus taking Tamil Nadu's death toll to 98. The day also did see a good number of recoveries as 846 people were discharged taking the total number of recoveries in the state to 7,128. The number of samples tested on May 22 are 12,653 taking the total samples tested so far to 3,85,185 while the number of persons tested today are 12,046 and the total number of people tested to date stands at 3,67,939.
