Leading South Indian actress Nayanthara, called fondly by her fans around the world as 'Lady Superstar', will be seen next in the highly-anticipated Connect, which is releasing in theatres on December 22 ahead of Christmas. Set during the first nationwide lockdown in early 2020, the film is a horror thriller directed by Ashwin Saravanan of Maya and Game Over fame and has been produced by Vignesh Shivan under the Rowdy Pictures banner. With promotions underway already, Nayanthara recently sat down for an interview to talk about working in Connect and shared her views about women-centric films, while also revealing why she stopped attending audio launch events.
Addressing the massive success she has attained in her career, Nayanthara was asked by popular host and actor Dhivyadharshini (DD) whether she has achieved her goals over the course of 20 years in the film industry. The reigning queen of South Indian cinema said, "Almost. I feel there's a lot more to do. There's a lot more to achieve. But, I think I'm somewhere there. I feel I've achieved my goals to a good extent because when I started the second set of years in my career, I had a few dreams. Back then, there weren't women-centric films. It was a time and phase when there wasn't importance for women. It used to make me wonder why there isn't any importance for heroines. Even if I attended an audio launch, it would be like they would make me stand in some corner and they would say something random. There would be no importance at all and that is actually the reason why I don't go. I thought about reaching those heights and then going to such functions. I did think, but I didn't do that and it's a different issue. But, I felt back then that I should do something and women should be treated equally. If not equally, there has to be a certain importance for us and is something I had wished for. There are so many women-centric films now. There are so many producers who are coming to produce so many films. It's actually very, very nice."
