A 50-year-old man named Mani of Mathur MMDA, who had tested positive for the novel coronavirus, committed suicide on Tuesday by hanging himself in the bathroom of the Government Stanley Medical College and Hospital in Chennai. It is said the individual was admitted in the hospital after testing positive for COVID-19 and was subsequently allotted a bed at the Intermediate Care Unit (IMCU) ward. Around 6:30AM on Tuesday, he had gone to the restroom and not returned back to his bed for quite some time. A security guard who went looking for him had found the COVID-19 patient to have hung himself on the bathroom grille using a towel.

A case has been registered by the police and investigations are ongoing. It is said Mani had been depressed ever since he tested positive for the coronavirus after which he stopped interacting with others and chose to remain alone for most part of the time. It is further stated that Mani had also been suffering from numerous other health ailments and he probably resorted to killing himself due to the pain caused by the afflictions.
