The Indian government has allowed domestic flights to resume services from May 25th and the airlines are gearing up to begin flying. However, there is a very high possibility that the Chennai airport could have only departures and no arrivals, as the Tamil Nadu State Government is not too keen on allowing people into the State with there being high numbers of COVID-19 infections, already. The State Government has appointed Hans Raj Verma, the Additional Chief Secretary of Rural Development and Panchayat Raj Department, to coordinate domestic air operations and come up with a strategy to handle incoming passengers. A Government Order was issued in this regard, yesterday!

Chennai Airport to most likely have only departures!

A high-level meeting is expected to take place today, to decide on whether to allow incoming passengers at the Chennai Airport. The State Government has also appointed Harmander Singh, the Additional Chief Secretary of Municipal Administration and Water Supply Department to prepare a strategy for screening, testing and quarantining incoming train and flight passengers. Both these top officials will coordinate with the Health & Family Welfare as well as Revenue & Disaster Management departments, Southern Railways and Airports Authority of India, and submit a revised operating procedure for trains and flights. Stay tuned for updates...
