However, Vijay Sethupathi has been in the eye of a controversy, in recent times! He has been accused of hurting the religious sentiments of Hindus on a TV show, on a popular satellite channel! Last year, Vijay Sethupathi hosted a show on Sun TV, titled Namma Ooru Hero, which had him interacting with real-life heroes from our villages and towns. On one episode of this show, which aired on 17th March 2019, Vijay Sethupathi had mentioned that the priests in Hindu temples allow people to witness the statues of gods being bathed but block their view of the idols being dressed!

Vijay Sethupathi had gone on to mention an anecdote of a story where a young girl questions her grandfather as to why this happens in temples! This seems to have hurt the sentiments of many Hindus and a case has recently been filed against Vijay Sethupathi at a Trichy Police Station, by some members of the All India Hindu Sabha. Now, politician H Raja of the Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP), who is well known for his controversial statements and comments, has taken to his Twitter handle to call for the Tamil Nadu state government to arrest Vijay Sethupathi! H Raja has also recalled an anecdote of a freedom fighter who was harassed by the Britishers and lost his life to them but mentioned on his deathbed that there would come a day when India would be free. Following this anecdote, H Raja has mentioned that the number of situations where people in Tamil Cinema have been insulting Hindus and hurting their sentiments.
