Ball Pen has been screened at Chennai Children's Film Festival recently. Shashikanth has directed the movie, and the movie is the first Kannada film to be shot on 5D camera. Ball Pen is a story about few children who attempt to address the issues that are neglected by elders. The children address the problems faced by farmers, issues of poverty and superstition prevailing in the rural areas.

C.J. Rajkumar is the cinematographer, while Manikanth Kadri is the music director. Manjunath is the script writer.

On talking about Ball Pen, director Shashikanth said, “When Manjunath narrated the story of Ball Pen, I was really moved and decided to make it. Srinagara Kitty extended his support to the venture and the film was shot for 24 days in Bangalore and Hyati Mudargi, a village in Koppal taluk.”

Talking about audiences response at the Film Festival, the director said, “Kollywood director and actor Cheran compared the film to Majid Majidi's Iranian classic Children of Heaven and his words made me really proud.”

“Though Ball Pen is tagged as a children's film, it is a film for adults too. It is a kind of crossover film, which reiterates the popular adage, ‘pen is mightier than the sword,” he added.
