Oscar-winner AR Rahman was chosen as the lucky one to honour legendary Carnatic vocalist MS Subbulakshmi at the United Nations for India’s 70th Independence Day celebrations. The event also had a cultural extravaganza featuring Rahma, who become the second Indian artist after Subbulakshmi to perform at the UN. And guess, the Oscar-winner executed a mesmerising performance which left the audience spellbound. Rahman showcased India's diversity through music by adding a blend of Sanskrit and Tamil hymns in Carnatic tradition, followed by popular modern, Hindustani, Islamic and qawwali songs and ending on a high note with the resounding Jai ho.
