The much-awaited Amala Paul starrer, Aadai, which was given an ‘A’ certificate by the Censor Board had been announced to be coming out in theatres starting today (July 19). Directed by Meyaadha Maan fame Rathna Kumar, the film has massive expectations surrounding it after its bold teaser and intense trailer received a tremendous response from fans. That said, Aadai has met some unexpected obstacles as its theatrical release has been stopped after a group called Anaithu Makkal Arasiyal Katchi headed by Rajeswari Priya. She had earlier filed a case seeking the stopping of the film’s screenings in theatres citing the promotional material to be obscene and objectionable. Now, the Magalir Ani has also filed a case against the film and a few other sections of the media are reporting that there are financial issues that need to be sorted to pave way for its smooth release. The morning special shows and press screenings have been cancelled while the noon shows are also expected to not be screened.

An adult thriller, Aadai has been discussed quite a lot among fans ever since the film’s first look poster was released last year and director Rathna Kumar too has time and again stated Amala Paul’s role is tailor-made for her. Produced by Viji Subramaniam under the V Studios banner with music by Pradeep Kumar, Aadai includes Vivek Prasanna and popular VJ Ramya Subramanian in supporting roles.
