Aishwarya Rai is one of the most loved Indian actresses ever. She has acted in over 45 films across five different languages which includes English. It must be recalled that she made her film debut in Tamil with Mani Ratnam’s Iruvar which released in the year 1997. Aishwarya then went on to act in 4 other direct Tamil films - Jeans, Kandukondain Kandukondain, Ravanan and Enthiran.

She hasn’t had a release in Tamil for 9 years and now Aishwarya Rai has made it official that she will be back to Kollywood with yet another Mani Ratnam film. Though none of the films they have worked together has been successful commercially, Aishwarya has always shown a keen interest in working with Mani Ratnam.

She considers Mani to be her mentor and this is what she had to say about her upcoming film Ponniyin Selvan and working with Mani once again. “Even though Mani hasn’t formally announced it himself, but the word is out, yes, I will be working with him (Mani Ratnam). I will always be more than thrilled, excited, overwhelmed and happy to work with my Guru Mani.

I am going back to school. For anybody and everybody, that’s the first movie connect is very special. I think we will start shooting for this project towards the end of this year (2019).
