In a shocking turn of events, ace cinematographer B Kannan passed away today (June 13). According to reports, Kannan was getting treated for heart-related problems in a private hospital in Chennai. Kannan was 69 years old when he breathed his last. Producer and Dean of BOFTA, G Dhananjayan shared this news on his official Twitter page. For the uninformed, cinematographer B Kannan is widely known for his recurrent association with legendary filmmaker Bharathiraja. Kannan has worked as the cinematographer for acclaimed classic hit films like Nizhalgal, Alaigal Oivathillai, Tik Tik Tik, Mann Vasanai, Pudhumai Penn, Mudhal Mariyathai, Oru Kaidhiyin Diary, Kadalora Kavithaigal, Vedham Pudhithu, Kizhakku Cheemaiyile, Karuththamma, etc.

For the past few years, he was teaching at BOFTA (Blue Ocean Film and Television Academy) Film Institute as the Head (HoD) of Cinematography department. Notably, Kannan is the son of yesteryear filmmaker Bhimsingh. Kannan is survived by his brother and editor B Lenin, wife Kanchana and two daughters, Madhumathi and Janani.
