The impact and consequence of any war lasts for centuries, even after the war ceases. In such a scenario, there are over a thousand nuclear bombs which lie at the bottom of different seas and oceans, currently. The disaster that they may wreak when any one of them washes ashore is unimaginable. What happens when one such bomb surfaces and how a hardworking lorry driver who works at an old paper mart tries to stop it from exploding? That is what Irandam Ulagaporin Kadaisi Gundu is all about. The film is packed with moments for both the commercial film audience as well as people who prefer to watch content-driven subjects.

Dinesh is not a typical flamboyant Tamil hero but he has a unique style and when you actually see him perform, he sweeps you off your feet. Irandam Ulagaporin Kadaisi Gundu is another addition to his repertoire. And his dubbing looked absolutely flawless, that’s where you realize what a seasoned actor Dinesh is. We hope he gives us more such endearing performances in the future. ‘Kayal’ Anandhi gets to play a similar role to what she played in Pariyerum Perumal and Chandi Veeran but as usual, she fits the bill very well.

The film offers a well-judged balance of drama and other social issues and it manages to shift sensitively from intense drama to love track to a social angle. IUKD is very beautifully made and smartly set at the beginning. It is edgier in the initial stages when you hardly know how this film is going to progress but as things loosen up, you can predict how the story is going end. The dialogues are one of the strong points in the film. They are mature and intriguing. Meanwhile, the songs were effective but the placement of one song slightly reduced the intensity of the story.

The entire technical team deserves a pat on its back. The editing, music, visuals and sound design are all breathtaking. The editing, in particular, is very impressive right from the beginning when they show the lifestyle of people living in a paper mart. Hardly a scene goes by without visually engaging the audience. The sound design helps you to feel the impact of a real blast and it constantly keeps you hooked up. The entire technical team have worked out of their skin to make this happen.

With some intriguing performances, camera work, deep emotions and solid music, the director makes you forget the predictability and the compromised logic. Irandam Ulagaporin Kadaisi Gundu is a neatly made film with minimal complaints to talk about. Overall, a fresh attempt that needs to be encouraged.

Verdict: An intense thriller that will be remembered and relished!
